RETRO FRIDAY : Sinners And Saints

Back in 2004, Robomonkey Productions release a action / horror and Si-Fi movie called Sinner and Saint. I remember been at the Rue-Morgue Festival of fear. We were vendors at that time. The DiggerFilms table was loaded with Stories of a Gravedigger DVDs. The convention open at 4pm and the table next 2 us was empty….until Melantha Blackthorne shows up. She, and her partner Jason Cavalier, were selling Sinner and Saint for the first time.

Screen shot 2010-08-19 at 1.50.05 PM

Father Charmichael Drake is tormented by his clairvoyant dreams, which in turn drive him to fight crime and the forces of evil. The demon slaying priest and Sister Jordan Merrick (a scantily clad nun) get more than they bargained for when summoned by the Queen Of Hell to bring justice to the Hades dimension. Action filled, twisted, very dark, horrific, bloody, perverted and most of all – a very artistic film revealing the darker sides of filmmakers Melantha Blackthorne and Jason Cavalier.

Sinner and Saint is a really cool action film. Sometime funny, sometime scary, filled out with some nudity, I’m pretty sure that every inde horror fan will love the flick.

Retro Friday : One Hell of a Christmas

This is one of the first inde film I bought. If I remember right, One Hell of a Christmas was release with the Fangoria Presents banner at the time.

After the succes of his first film Angels of the Night, Shaky Gonzalez directed this film in 2002.

“One Hell of a Christmas” is a dark and action packed comedy that takes place in a modern city as well as in a fearful underworld. When Carlitos is released after doing 2 years of “hard time”, he attempts to redeem himself and sets an example for his 5 year-old son. However, when a friend confronts him with a very dark and horrifying scam for some quick dough and good times, he declines, but never the less he soon finds himself entangled in a web of sex, drugs and Christmas carols.

For more information about the film, check out the IMDB page.

Retro Friday : Timo Rose’s Barricade

After several years apart, old friends Nina and Michael reunite in Germany, accompanied by Michael’s associate, David. The three decide to take a weekend trip into the woods to escape the stress of their lives and relax for a few days. Unfortunately, the woods are inhabited by a long-forgotten family of cannibalistic mountain people – and these three look like the perfect meal.

Release in 2007, Barricade is a really gory film starring Joe Zaso and Raine Brown. The movie is directed by Timo Rose.  Since 2007, Rose directed 8 films.

This is one of the good inde production that I saw. The artwork is also really cool. Jason Beam did a really good job like usual.

Visit the Official MySpace website of the movie or see Timo Rose Facebook page.

Below you can find the Barricade trailer but I also found the clip of the German premiere of the film at the Week-end of Fear.

RETRO FRIDAY : The Resurrection Game

Hello ! Yes it’s Friday and it’s time for Retro Friday.  Don’t want to repeat myself but every Friday I’m blogging on an “old” inde film because it’s fun to re-watch an old cool flick or, for some people who nerver saw it, well it’s cool to discover some good inde horror flick.

So this week I want to talk about a movie from Happy Clouds Picture called The Resurrection Game because they just put out The Resurrection Game 10th Anniversary DVD! So I will be lazy an I will just Copy and Paste their Presse Release !

Happy Cloud Pictures is proud to announce the release of
The Resurrection Game 10th Anniversary DVD!

After ten long years of false-starts and works-in-progress, PA-based Happy Cloud Pictures has finally completed the official DVD of their 16mm “zombie-noir”, The Resurrection Game, just in time for the movie’s 10th Anniversary.
Referred to as “ultra-rare” (which is an understatement) by Stoker-Winning writer Jonathan Maberry, The Resurrection Game is set in the years following an undead outbreak, where the constant presence of zombies is just another daily nuisance. When a private detective teams up with a scientist and a pair of colorful zombie exterminators, he uncovers a dark conspiracy so far-reaching that the walking dead are the least of the problems. The movie stars Ray Yeo (One of the Living), Amy Lynn Best (Splatter Movie: The Director’s Cut), Bill Homan (Demon Divas and the Lanes of Damnation), Francis Veltri (Severe Injuries) and Kristen Pfeifer (Biophage), with special appearances by Jasi Cotton Lanier (Alice in Wonderland) and Debbie Rochon (Colour from the Dark).
Beset with numerous problems during its long post-production, The Resurrection Game will finally be available to the public in its final form on April 30, 2010. “We went back to the original neg-to-DV transfer,” says writer/director Mike Watt (A Feast of Flesh, Demon Divas and the Lanes of Damnation), “and discovered that a lot of the digital ‘archiving’ glitches were present from the outset. We still cleaned it up to the best of our ability, with a new color correction pass and a new audio mix taken from the original on-set ¼” recordings, professional digital compression and the whole nine yards. It looks better than ever and the 16mm colors really pop on this transfer.”
The anniversary DVD comes with motion menus hosted by everyone’s favorite undead pitch-man, Necro-Phil, two audio commentaries—one solo track from the director and one featuring the producer trio of Best, Watt and Homan—and a brand new 40-minute documentary about the long journey getting from 2000 to today, featuring interviews with fellow artists Scooter McCrae (Shatter Dead), Alan Rowe Kelly (The Blood Shed), Lloyd Kaufman (Poultrygeist), Michael Gingold (Fangoria Magazine managing editor), Patrick Desmond (The Absence of Light) and many more. The documentary also includes some never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage and rushes.
“While Amy, Jeff Waltrowski (Project: Valkyrie), Henrique Couto (Faces of Schlock) and I were archiving sixty or so hours of VHS footage shot on set, we discovered a number of tapes that we hadn’t seen since the day we’d shot them, including snippets of things that were originally meant for the final cut that got lost along the way. So it was fun to see that stuff again.”
Covered in such publications as Jamie Russell’s Book of the Dead, Zombiemania, Zombie CSU, The Dark Side, Rue Morgue and Fangoria Magazine, The Resurrection Game has developed an incredible cult-following over the years and fans will be pleased with the final version. But if the anniversary disk isn’t enough, those who purchase the DVD can send in a proof of purchase provided on the cover to receive a completely free companion disk filled with numerous other extras—including a rare investor’s video, unseen trailers, a never-before-seen alternate opening and the original VHS workprint which has been bootlegged around the world!
“That’s the version most people were familiar with,” says Watt. “This ugly, ‘Robot Epilepsy Theater’ thing I shot off a Steenbeck monitor. But when we asked fans what they’d most like to see on a second disk, this is what they asked for. Grease pencil marks, stuttering picture, chattering soundtrack and all.”
As 2010 also marks Happy Cloud Pictures’ 13th Anniversary as a company, look for more special offers from the company throughout the year by visiting the website at

Retro Friday : Witchboard & Night of the Demons

I decide this week to bring you back in time. But not just 3-4 years ago. Wichboard was release on March 13th 1987 and Night of the Demons on September 9th 1988. The reason why I decide to talk to you about those two films is because, first they are directed by Kevin Tenney but also because they will be back on the screen this week-end at the Nevermore Film Festival at the Carolina Theater.

WICHBOARD

At a party, a guest brings out a Ouija board, and they attempt to contact a spirit he knows. The spirit does appear, but it becomes apparent to the one who brought the Ouija board that this is an evil spirit that is impersonating his spirit, and despite warnings not to use the board alone, a woman uses it alone, and becomes harassed by the evil spirit, his goal to possess her so he can walk the earth again

Retro Friday : Brett Piper’s Bite Me

Each year, Shock-o-rama is putting out a film that put the inde film on another level. In 2004, Brett Piper directed a movie called Bite Me.

Screen shot 2010-02-11 at 9.23.08 PMBrett Piper is one of the best inde director these days. From 2000 to 2006 he made 1 film each year. After Screaming Dead, in 2003, he came back with Bite Me in 2004. The movie is starring Scream Queens Misty Mundae, Julian Wells and Erika Smith.

When a hybrid strain of bio-engineered marijuana is delivered to a secluded strip club, it brings with it a monstrous army of insect creatures and a renegade U.S. federal agent with a big chip on his shoulder. Soon the stealthy, fist-sized bugs are busily engorging themselves on human blood, their bite effecting a particularly potent narcotic reaction in those attacked.

You will se that even if the movie was done in 2004, it’s still watchable .
