BIG NEWS CONCERNING UNDER THE SCARES !

A couple of weeks ago, DiggerFilms announced that the premiere of our their documentary Under the Scares will take place in New York City on May 29th at the Tribeca Cinemas at 7h30pm. Under the Scares primarily aims at understanding the process’ involved in the making of an independent horror film and this odd industry and interviewees includes : Robert Kurtzman (“From Dusk Till Dawn,” “The Rage”), Herschell Gordon Lewis (the Godfather of Gore, “Blood Feast”), Lloyd Kaufman (Troma Entertainment), Tony Timpone (Fangoria Magazine), Debbie Rochon (Scream Queen), Gary Jones (“Xena, Warrior Princess,” “Boogeyman 3”), Rodrigo Gudino (Rue-Morgue Magazine). But this morning, we learn that legendary horror director, Frank Henenlotter have been added to the “roster” of Under the Scares.

Henelotter’s films were inspired by the exploitation and sexploitation films he loved, the kind which played on 42nd Street in New York City in the 1960s and 1970s. His films are low-budget and filled with gore and special-effects. They are considered by many to be B-movies, but they also turned the conventions of these films upon themselves. Although many of his films are somewhat obscure, his most well-known are Basket CaseBrain Damage and Frankenhooker.

In 2008, Henellotter directed Bad Biology.

Driven by biological excess, a young man and woman search for sexual fulfillment, unaware of each other’s existence. Unfortunately, they eventually meet, and the bonding of these two very unusual human beings ends in an explosive and ultimately over-the-top sexual experience, resulting in a truly god awful love story.

To know more about the Bad Biology, check out the Bad Biology’s IMDB page.

Right now, he’s working on a documentary about Herschell Gordon Lewis ; The Godfather of Gore.

FANGORIA TALK ABOUT UTS MOVIE PREMIERE

Thanks to Fangoria for the post they put on the Fango website yesterday about the Under the Scares movie premiere in NYC.

UNDER THE SCARES MOVIE PREMIERE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Montreal, May 5th 2010) This morning DiggerFilms annonces the movie premiere of Under the Scares, a documentary about the independent horror film industry in North America. The documentary, shot in numerous cities around the United States, was produced and directed by Steve Villeneuve. “We went to New York, Pittsburgh, Hollywood, Cleveland and Chicago, just to name a few… All things considered, we’ve travelled more than 30 000 km in order to make this film,” says Steve Villeneuve, smiling. “And we hope the finished movie will now travel just as much or more.”

The documentary primarily aims at helping young filmmakers to understand the process’ involved in the making of an independent horror film. Many aspects are discussed by the numerous personalities interviewed: the arrival of the new video technologies and the impact it has on the marketplace now that “anyone can make a movie” ; the relative inexperience of most filmmakers, often resulting in a loss of 90% of the funds invested ; the need to get a good story to begin with ; the actor’s point of view.

Interviewees includes Robert Kurtzman (“From Dusk Till Dawn,” “The Rage”), Herschell Gordon Lewis (the Godfather of Gore, “Blood Feast”), Lloyd Kaufman (Troma Entertainment), Tony Timpone (Fangoria Magazine), Debbie Rochon (Scream Queen), Gary Jones (“Xena, Warrior Princess,” “Boogeyman 3”), Rodrigo Gudino (Rue-Morgue Magazine).

The movie premiere of Under the Scares will take place in New York City at the Tribeca Cinemas at 7:30pm on Saturday May 29th.

This event will be opened to the public, although reservations are needed due to the limited number of seats available.
