The second film I saw at the BIFFF was Troll Hunter. It’s a fantastic film from Norway.
A group of students investigate a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.
In the same way then Cloverfield and Rec, Troll Hunter is a really really nice film. Like the poster says : It’s pretty damn spectacular. The FX are perfect, the characters are strong and the script is solid. It’s also really funny.
As everyone know, I’m not a critic, so that’s why this is not a really long review/article on the movie. This is just me telling you : CHECK OUT THIS FILM.
*The Gravedigger is not a critic though, he simply exhibits posters and trailers from those movies that need a little free publicity.
Still grieving the death of their only child Alice at the jaws of a crazed dog, vet Patrick and pharmacist Louise relocate to the remote town of Wake Wood where a local pagan ritual gives them three more precious days with her… but what will they do when it’s time for their new daughter to go back?
I sat down at the BIFFF without any expectation with this movie. The start of the movie is kind off good but more your watching it, the more you realize that it’s really a cliché and bad adaptation of pet cemetery. The problem with it is not the director, actors, cinematography or anything else on set or in post-production. It seems that we are looking at the first version of a script. The wrote it and shoot it.
So I didn’t dislike the movie, but I tough that a film like that would work in the 80′s but in 2011, you need to find away to do something different and everything is really starting with the script. I think people should give it a try !
So after 2 days in Paris, we were ready to jump into the BIFFF !
I will admit that we didn’t really know what the festival would look like. In Montreal, we have Fantasia. It’s one of the biggest and best Fantastic Festival around the globe….so our expectation wasn’t really huge. Well guest what, the BIFFF is HUGE !!!!!
First of all, the fest location is amazing. Tour & Taxi is really an urban experience. It’s really an old and beautiful building like everyone love ! When you enter the fest, it’s like a really big convention. You can buy some books, some DVDs, some painting ect. The only thing sad about it is that there’s not enough vendors !
The festival have one super big screening room (more then 1000 people I’m pretty sure). It’s always full. We did discover a different and strange way to be in a festival. The people here, just don’t stop talking during the movies. At first you just want to scream to everyone to shut up. But after a little while, you realize that they are doing this since 29 years. For exemple, they are screaming to the caracters : NOOO don’t go there…you will get kill. Or, they will say : Close the door !!!! Anyway, earlier tonight I almost kill a guy because he ws the only one talking during Troll Hunter.
As for now, we went to see Wake Wood (yesterday) and Troll Hunter tonight. Grave Digger will wrote you some little reviews later this week about the films.
So our second and last day in Paris was really amazing ! First of all we did like everyone does and went to walk on Les Champs Élisés, see the Arc de triomphe and the Tour Eiffel.
After all this cute things, we went the Cinémathéque Française to check out the exhibition on Stanley Kubrick. It was terrific ! It’s really the best exhibit I ever saw about someone ! We were there for about 2h30minutes and coulded stay another 2 hours for sure. There’s sooooooo many things to read about and to learn.
And we finish the night with a friend of our, VJPillow, in a god and nice restaurant.
Tomorrow, BIFFF here we come !
First of all I want to thanks the Grave Digger for giving me the chance to update the DiggerFilms films fans!
As almost everyone knows that my name is Steve Villeneuve. I’m one of the co-owner of DiggerFilms and the director of the documentary Under the Scares. You also know, that me and Jarrett Mann will be at the BIFF from this Thursday to the end of the festival. So, we decide to start our trip to Europe a little earlier. So our plane flew us to Paris yesterday.
Well, I will have to say that travelling to Europe is not easy. It’s kind of weird to leave Montreal at 7h30 and to arrived in here 6 hours later….at 8h30am !!!! So right now i’m writting this very little ticket at 9h00am, but back in Montreal it’s only 3h00am.
So….Paris !!! What a terrific city !! We were really lucky because we arrived at the hotel at 11h00am and they gave us our room. A quick shower, and bang, back i the city. But not for long. Without any sleep since 24 hours, the goal was to walk a little and find the meeting point we will have to reach at 5pm to meet up with PH, a director who leave in Paris and who came to Montreal last October to screened one of is horror short film.
Well the meeting point was not really hard to find. The LOUVRE is kind of big. Job done, we were really for a little 2 hours of sleep.
Back at the meeting point, PH was there, waiting for us. He make us walk around the city and show us some really nice place. He brought us in a little restaurant were we had some wine and cheese the French way. But I think, the best place of all was MONTMART. A terrific view on the city, some really cool and nice little bar and restaurants.
So this was my first day in Paris. And when I’m saying a day in Paris I really mean the city
Oh and I did manage to find 2 copies of L’Écran Fantastique which is featuring a nice 2 pages article on Under the Scares !
Like we report you about a month ago, Under the Scares director Steve Villeneuve , along with Montreal Spasm Film Festival director Jarrett Mann, will be at the BIFF from Thursday April 14th until the end of the festival. Villeneuve will update us almost everyday. Villeneuve is leaving Montreal tonight and will arrived in Paris during the night for 2 days. He will after, join the BIFF staff for the festival.
On April 4th, we were happy to announced that Under he Scares was schedule to be screened at Motor City Nightmare. Due to a major conflict between DiggerFilms and the Motor City Nightmares staff we decided to cancelled the screening.
Future Under the Scares screening TBA shortly. Check out the OFFICIAL WEBSITE for updates.
